Madeline Goold read Law at the London School of Economics. After a period in legal practice and bringing up her children, she studied Sculpture and History of Art at the Barber Institute, Birmingham, since when she has worked as a sculptor.

She has played the piano since childhood.

Mr. Langshaw's Square Piano is her first book.
